 ASM Invites You to 'Pleasure Island'
Adult Source Media's second CG animated feature, Pleasure Island. Written and directed by ASM head Wendy Crawford, Island follows a
group of marooned strangers experiencing metamorphosis on a mysterious island.
"Let's just say that their bodies are evolving. Who
they really are on the inside is breaking through to the outside," said Crawford.
ASM's first CG release, Pinks, bowed in December to
impressive sales in both adult and mainstream markets. The studio is also home to over 100
2D adult Japanese anime titles, including the AVN award- winning series Night Shift Nurses
and the tentacle-themed line The Night When Evil Falls.
"People are interested in animation because of the
fact that they are able to see things-positions and/or situations for example-that they
can't see in real life," said Crawford. "That's something we capture with this
movie. We've delivered a story that could not be shot with a camera. People will enjoy its
many twists and turns. And, this is just the first volume. There will be more."
And for good reason. According to Crawford, sales through
retail outlets such as Barnes & Nobles, Borders, SunCoast, Overstock.com, and Heavy
Metal Magazine have kept the studio alive and well in today's struggling adult DVD market.
"We made it through summer with no problem," says
Crawford. "Adult sales are definitely down, but the mainstream side kept us
going."
